Brain Injury Survivors
Esther Antman
The Pocket PC has been a transformative tool in my life. It has strengthened my ability to be independent, efficient, and productive. It has given me hope and a concrete vehicle with which to create a new fulfilling and fruitful future for myself.
Having sustained a brain injury in 2004, my life had become overwhelming and chaotic. I was unable to recall important details of my day; I was constantly misplacing appointment specifics such as dates and times. As a result, my daily list of to-do's became never-ending and always growing because I lacked the components necessary to be dependable or productive.
The memory compensation devise has helped me develop and a devise a plan that uniquely accommodates my special needs. It has aided me with my lack of initiation, my difficulties with short-term memory, as well as sequencing. As I continue to learn, improve and adapt to my new life, I am discovering the many uses of my PDA are innumerable. My Pocket PC assists me to persevere in my journey forward towards wholeness.

For me, remembering things is vital. Scheduling doctor's appointments days, weeks or months in advance, taking my medications everyday or my injection every other week, remembering events like birthdays, or anniversaries, are all very easy to do with a PDA. Even better, the PDA notifies me of the event a week, or a day, or a few minutes ahead of time so I never miss any appointment or event. And I can back up the information onto an SD card, like the one I use in my digital camera, so I can retrieve all the information and record-keeping if anything happens to the PDA or I can sync directly to my computer.

I am getting positive feedback from my clients regarding the ease of use. The DVD provides very clear instructions for using the many functions of the PDA. It is also helpful that the client can click on an instructional video as many time as is needed, to learn a specific function. Your DVD has been a great asset to our program. Thanks again.

Thank you for your recent work, the development of your online courses, your publications, and your efforts to improve the lives of those suffering from memory impairment as a result of brain injury. Your courses and publications are clear, concise, and structured to complement OT and SLP treatment programs. The use of PDA’s as memory aids for TBI patients in OT and SLP has been widespread, but your courses and books now provide the individual and their family or caregiver with a resource and with tools and exercises to make connections between everyday life and the PDA long after discharge from OT and SLP. Your tools have proven to be successful with my recent referrals to your program, and now, when I recommend a PDA for my patients, I intend to refer them to your website and to the services you provide.
I look forward to your publications dedicated to integration of smartphone and iTouch technology into the realm of cognitive retraining and memory compensation.~ Katherine, CCC-SLP

The tools are fantastic. I like the breakdown of tasks and how they fit into the learning process. Having both the disk and the workbook is a benefit for both the student and the trainer.

My current phone has hardly any of the capabilities as the new smart phones, so my perspective is very valid. I'm a new user. Very thorough. I appreciate the fact you asked the user to find a buddy or partner to assist. I also thought the forward made a great case for "buy in." Table 1-1 on pages 13-15 was especially helpful. Patients are always asking for real life examples. I found the practice activities very helpful; a great way to maintain attention and check for understanding of the material. The CD was informative and easy to follow. Lastly, I thought the Appendix D was a good, quick reference. If someone absolutely had too, they could tear those pages out and carry them in their purse or wallet.
